Women of Central Retreat | The Cove (Asheville)

This past October 21st and 22nd, I spent with the most wonderful women on earth; the Women of Central over at Central Church of God. I had this blessed opportunity to document all that went on at the Women’s Retreat at the Cove in Asheville, NC. There were tears, laughter, and many new friends that I’ve made. In fact, this has made our decision to move to Chicago that much harder. The scenery was breathtaking as well. The leaves were peak, the sunlight delicious, and all I can think to say after this experience is: how can there not be a God in all of this? Without further ado, here is a slideshow of all that happened over at The Cove. There are over 400 images in the slideshow, making it around 20 minutes long or so. My brother Ed, and his wife Gaby were here last week and we had such an amazing time. Ed recently started his own wedding cinematography company called ZomeiVP and while here, he filmed one of my bride’s weddings and then surprised me with the following montage of my kids while he stayed with us. Jenna and Chris’ wedding is one I am sure I’ll never forget. This day was full of laughter, tears, more laughter, and lots and LOTS of music and dancing. I have never heard of contra dancing until this wedding, and I have to say it took every bit of energy from me to resist joining them. It looked like incredible fun. What else was incredible? The music, talented singers, instrumentalists, the food, cake, and well -absolutely everything. Being in Boone again made me fall in love with this little country town all over again. I guess if Chicago doesn’t work out…

Jenna & Chris played and sang this beautiful song as a surprise to their guests during the ceremony.

Wedding | Kristen & Dale | Part One | Waynesville, NC

So we shot Kristen & Dale’s wedding at a beautiful private mountain home in Waynesville. For that day, I felt as though I were in another country. The scenery was breathtaking. Like we were in some french countryside or something. There was a water wheel over a pond covered in water lilies and a wooden roped swing that hung lonely from a tree -I mean, truly storybook. And this story includes a bride & groom who are beautiful people inside and out. The ceremony had everyone in tears, even the groomsmen. When Dale looks at Kristen, it’s as though he’s thinking, “God, I am the luckiest man in the world.” And when Kristen looks up at Dale, you know she’s thinking, “God, I am the luckiest girl in the world.” When two people mutually love each other that much now, can you even imagine what their love will be like 50 years from now?

Anyhow, there was a little bit of downtime during the first part of the day and so Alin and I had decided to mess around with the HD video functions with our 5D Mark II’s. We are definitely not these guys, and nor do we intend to ever switch over to wedding cinematography (there’s just no time for it), but it’s something that we had a little bit of extra time to do on this day, and hopefully it’s a pleasant surprise for Kristen & Dale. Engagement Portraits | Saundra & Steven

I met Saundra & Steven at the reception of a recent wedding I shot, and soon scheduled their engagement session. They drove down from Raleigh to Charlotte for their session and when they got here, we experienced one of the scariest and most violent storms that I have ever encountered. And we just kept on shooting straight away through it. Even when we stood at the train station, and the wind was blowing the rain sideways, beating on Courtney while she struggled to maintain her balance and keep the umbrella to somewhat shield my equipment. I have never seen so much lighting or heard so much loud thunder in my life. Saundra remained calm. She reassured us that if anything happened, she was an E.R. doctor and that we’d be okay in the end. Thanks for that Dr. Jackson. Heehee. Anyhow, no matter how much sky to ground lightning there was around us, there was a lot more electricity in the way these two looked at each other. (You know I had to go there.) Saundra and Steven, thank you for having a wonderful attitude throughout our session together, despite the weather (see video at the bottom of this post to see what I mean). I cannot wait to fly down to Florida this spring for the wedding! I will be praying that all hurricanes will not be happening while I’m there.
