The Shoda Family // Seattle, WA

Last summer Alin and I and the kids went up the coast on a road trip from Phoenix to Seattle. We biked the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, camped in the Redwoods, picnicked on the beaches of Oregon, and explored the city of Seattle. You can read about our Highway 1 and Pacific Northwest adventures here. We spent 8 nights in Seattle, and none of that would have been possible for us had it not been for the kindness of my good friend Jeramie & his wife Bethany. They offered us a place to sleep in their home for all 8 nights, and their precious girl Evey selflessly shared her room with all four of my kids. I wanted to thank them in as many ways as I could. One thing I knew I could do was to photograph the three of them and capture who they are at this time in their lives. We wandered around the little town of Edmonds, which is one of Bethany’s favorite places. Jeramie is an insanely talented wedding photographer in Seattle, and like most photographers I know, we are terribly uncomfortable in front of the camera. I love a good challenge though, and took it on gladly. These three have a beautiful family dynamic, and I so enjoyed spending the time that we did with them. I am forever grateful for the hospitality and kindness they’ve shown us. One of my favorite portraits from our session, is the cheesy “band photo” and the (so bad, but so good) glamor shot they let me take of them (scroll down to see, LOL).

Without further ado meet the Shoda’s.

Chad + Bridget | Durango, Colorado

engagement picture ideas

I first met Chad and Bridget when I flew out to Durango, Colorado to photograph their engagement portraits in a converted school bus they temporarily called home for a while. We spent the weekend getting to know each other, and putting the pieces of their story together to create this set of photos. I tried to notice everything I could about them; the details around their home, how they interacted with each other and their beloved dogs and cat, hearing about how they met and fell in love, and listening to the stories and adventures they’d been on in their lives before and after knowing each other.

There were more glances than words between them. More smiles than hugs. They didn’t need the whole world to know they were in love, kissing and touching for everyone to see. You could feel the admiration in their loving gazes at one another. Even more so when one was unaware they were being admired by the other.

My favorite moment from our time together was when Chad held Bridget tightly while they danced inside their school bus home. It took everything in me not to cry, it was that beautiful of a moment. And I’ll never forget how it felt to be a part of that.

I’m so grateful to Chad and Bridget for hosting me, and showing me around the beautiful town of Durango. I photographed their wedding in Rose City, Michigan a few months later and cannot wait to share the images from that incredible weekend. Lastly, I want to take a moment to honor Morton, their cat, who sadly passed away shortly after their wedding. He had the most loving parents in Chad and Bridget and I was lucky to get to know him during my time there. RIP, Morton.

I love how this is quite a big, beautiful step beyond your standard engagement session. It’s a genuine and lovely look into their lives together.

Maria + Rufus // Paris, France

Last July, Alin and I traveled to Paris, France to shoot a wedding near to there. I blogged some personal photos with my iPhone as well as with my film camera back in August. Margaux and Fuad’s wedding will be posted on here in the next couple weeks so you won’t want to miss those. But right now I want to share some images I took of Maria and Rufus. Maria is an incredibly talented international wedding photographer based out of Finland and I was honored to have her shoot alongside me for Margaux and Fuad’s French country wedding. The morning after the wedding, Maria, her husband Rufus and I headed out to Montmarte and strolled about town documenting their love.

I would move to France tomorrow, if I could. But for now, I’d go back anytime to photograph more weddings and sessions in this country that I love so much and has had a grip on my heart since I was a little girl.

Beautiful! I especially love the one where Maria is throwing her head back laughing while they’re in front of the ivy wall. I can’t wait to see photos from your French wedding! :)

LOVE that black and white of them totally cracking up in front of the wall of greenery. Awesome work!!

Love these photos! Totally random though, is that that staircase is in Call of Duty. I swear. I’ve camped on those stairs before, lol!!! 😀 Either way, I love the shots you captured here!
